One of my favorite tricks for sales and negotiating is the secret that’s not a secret. People really like to feel special and so when you offer them information that they think is “secret” it makes them think they are being gifted with something special. I mean you can totally tell them a true secret but often times we aren’t really allowed to talk about certain things with clients and vendors. Even with an NDA in place. So add the phrases “In all honesty”, “Between you and me” or “I shouldn’t really be telling you this” to your conversations and you have made the other person feel like they are in a special club. With this new bond you can ease in to a new level for your negotiations. It is one peace to a larger puzzle of negotiating but try adding it to your repertoire.
