Presenting VR

It has been reported on before but I have to say trying to present VR to an audience is difficult. On stage you either show them a video of what the user is seeing with no split which is really just a video like normal or you show a split screen which is really just two videos like normal side by side. I don’t really think unless you truly know about VR you won’t understand what you are watching there and why it is cool. The cool is really being in the head mounted display and that is limited to the viewer at the moment. Getting the cool ooooohs and aaaaaahs only comes with using the actual device. Installations and demonstrations will be the only real way to get across the experience. It is a very unique challenge for Virtual Reality. One that I hope there is a better answer for in the future.

Real Virtuality

It is often reported that Virtual Reality is isolating and not a social or shared experience. Well this is a great example of people interacting in a shared space with the wonders of VR. Awesome work. Just shows the beginnings of where this tech is going and sooner than people think.

The End of Disney Quest

Disney QuestDisney Quest, which opened in 1998, will be shuttering its doors in 2016. Thankfully I have a trip to Disney World planned for November so I will catch it for one last ride. Sad to see it end but I am sure newer and better things are on the horizon.

PaulThere aren’t a lot of VR experiences out there currently. Wait let me rephrase that. There aren’t a lot of good VR experiences out there currently but one of the experiences I like to share with people to give them an idea of how cool it can be is the Paul McCartney VR experience by Jaunt. This totally awesome little experience puts you on stage for a Paul McCartney concert and switches between a couple positions letting you be right on the edge of the stage or next Sir Paul McCartney himself as he plays Live and Let Die. Down load it today.

This weeks Friday Friends Feature is a talented artist I met here in India. She grew up in New Orleans moved back to Kalcutta and now bounces between Pune and Mumbai for gigs. She is a regular couch surfer at my place. Her music is all about that funk and well worth a listen. Check her out:
